I met Lisa when her employer, Dream House Studios, gave her a gift certificate as a Christmas present. Weather and schedules were not on our side, however, after a couple of attempts to get her beautiful family together, we were finally able to meet up last week. Her three handsome boys piled out of the car and towered over their petite mamma…I joked that I had my work cut out for me as it was a shame they weren't that good looking! Holy crow, so handsome! And there was definitely a bond between them all, especially lots of inside humor with Dad, and at times, hard to keep a straight face for all of us. Secretly, I think they all want to be hand models! Thank you Crossen Family…it was my pleasure to meet you and capture this brief moment in your life. Enjoy. xo
A Round Bay Wedding | Jim + Jennifer | 2015
Six months ago, Jen and Jim were engaged. Jen asked if I would photograph her wedding. She promised it would be very informal and said, "I promise no staged nothings. Just candids. And your wonderfulness." I kindly declined and sent her some recommendations as I do not photograph weddings.
Fast forward a week before the wedding and I send her a text to be sure she has a photographer in place and I receive this response, "Oh you are so sweet to check--we didn't---couldn't get over our love for you;)". What? No photographer. Seriously? She knew me well and I showed up. I had nothing to lose. If the images didn't turn out, she wasn't going to have a photographer anyway. It is no wonder she has a successful child psychology practice…she knew exactly what to say to make me feel comfortable shooting my first wedding solo. Disclaimer: Do not attempt to duplicate or recreate this tactic as I do not photograph weddings. :)
The day was gorgeous after a week full of heavy rain. The skies had cleared and the guests began to descend on Round Bay, each one playing a vital part in this special day. It is hard to explain the feeling I got when I walked into the scene at Jennifer's home, but all I knew was there was excitement, joy and most of all love. There was a laid back, "it will all come together", calm vibe that was refreshing. The same vibe carried over where Jim and the groomsmen were getting ready. Nine men sharing a toast and many memories of a lifetime together. I couldn't help but get a little emotional knowing their time together has taking many twists and turns, but their bond was stronger than ever and they were here to celebrate a marriage of a good friend, just as they had for each other many times before.
The event did all come together. Friends and neighbors offered homes for guests, flowers from their gardens for bouquets and centerpieces, and the neighborhood beach was prepped for a celebration. Guests eagerly gathered to witness a marriage between two people that they cherished. And I was honored to capture a glimpse of this day. Thank you Jennifer + Jim. xo
zeph turns 10 | family photography | 2015
Zeph turned 10 and his mom wanted to document the milestone. His sister thought it might be important to document age 7 as well. Sweet, sweet family. Could have stayed all day. Can't wait to go back. Happy Birthday Zeph!
Genevieve | You Inspire Me
One of the strongest women I have ever met. The first time I laid my eyes on her was a cold winter day a little over two years ago. The sky was full of clouds and a light icy rain. She was pregnant, standing at the city bus stop with her daughter wearing a thin coat. After a bus ride to an automotive store to purchase a part for her car, she returned to her temporary home, The Light House Shelter, soaking wet. She was trying to get to Virginia to visit family for the holidays, but her car needed to be repaired first. Using her community of resources, she was able to find a mechanic within the shelter who could work on it for a reasonable negotiated rate of $25. It was all she could pay him.
This was all handled with patience and grace. And a two year old in tow. In the pouring icy rain. I watched from afar, and wondered if I had even an ounce of that grace. Or patience. Or resourcefulness. How I take for granted a working car. My own transportation. My own shelter.
I find myself thinking on that day whenever I seem to think things are hard. She showed me that no matter what your circumstances, the true test is how you handle them. No matter how big your obstacles seem, your positive perspective will help you overcome all that are in your way.
Two years later, she now has two beautiful girls. A home. A job. And a new used car. All of this, accomplished with her perseverance, patience and grace. Meet beautiful Genevieve.
tbt | The Fitzgerald Family | 2008
Our boys cross over in age, so I am blessed with running into this very handsome family every so often around town. Cameron is now a lifeguard on that very stand each summer. Crazy.
Thank you Fitzgerald Family for a trip to the shore to get a glimpse of your everyday life there in the summer.
{tbt allows me to post past sessions because who doesn't love looking back?}
